Principal's Update May 2010

As I write this update our students in grades 2-8 are completing important S.T.A.R. tests which are intended to measure a student’s yearly progress in a single test battery. Schools are judged almost solely by the state and federal governments on how students perform on these tests therefore it is important that students perform to their best ability on these assessments. To encourage our students to perform their best on these tests we are holding a spirit week, assemblies, a rally, and a variety of other activities in the days and weeks leading up to, during and after the testing. Parents will be receiving individual results of how their child performed on the testing in a mailing over the summer.

I am pleased to announce that the Give Every Child a Chance after school program will remain at Banta for the next school year. This program serves students in grades 1-6 with an opportunity for responsible 7th and 8th graders to participate in the program as volunteers. The program will be open every school day beginning immediately after school to 6:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. There are currently spots open for families that are interested in participating in this program. For more information please stop by the school office or call GECAC Banta site program coordinator Eloisa Rodriguez at (209) 456-2417.

During the month of May we are accepting Kindergarten registration for both in district and out of district students. For out of district students who would like to attend Banta please turn in your application and interdistrict agreement as soon as possible to ensure you child a place in our program next year. Parents if you are aware of a family who is looking for a small school environment with an exceptional educational program for their incoming Kindergartner please refer them to our school office. Our school will offer a full day Kindergarten program and an option for after school care next year. These features will be very attractive to many parents.

Important events this month include a Mighty Mustang meeting on May 12th at 12:45 p.m. in the gymnasium, a PFA meeting on May 12th at 7:00 p.m. in the library, and a school board meeting on May 20th at 7:00 p.m.

Have a great month!
